Lesson plan 1a (Largely Muslim teaching group)
Learning Outcomes/Objectives:
By the end of this lesson, pupils should be able to:
Recognise who is qualified to give advice on the Islamic faith.
Show greater understanding of Islaam, Eeman, and Ihsaan.
Appreciate the distortion of the non-violent teachings of Islaam by violent extremist groups like Khawarij.
Evaluate how current violent extremist groups like al-Qa’eda are only continuing this distortion of the non-violent teachings of Islaam.
Lesson plan 1b (Alternative: Largely non-Muslim teaching group)
Learning Outcomes/Objectives:
By the end of this lesson, pupils should be able to:
Recognise who is qualified to give advice on the Islamic faith.
Show greater understanding of Islaam, Eeman and Ihsaan.
Evaluate how current violent extremist groups like al-Qa’eda are distorting the non-violent teachings of Islaam.
Lesson plan 2
Learning Outcomes/Objectives:
By the end of this lesson, pupils should be able to:
Show greater understanding of jihad in Islaam, specifically, the differences between (i)jihad meaning struggle against temptation; (ii)offensive jihad; (iii)defensive jihad.
Evaluate the distortion of the non-violent teachings of Islaam regarding jihad by violent extremist groups like al-Qa’eda and others.
Understand that current extremist groups like al-Qa’eda are only using this distorted understanding of jihad (i)for their own ends or (ii)through ignorance or (iii) both.
Lesson plan 3
Learning Outcomes/Objectives:
By the end of this lesson, pupils should be able to:
Gain an understanding of what influences and shapes our identity in society.
Examine and gain a greater knowledge and understanding of prejudice and discrimination as it exists in society and particularly in our local community.
Develop a working definition of the term Islamophobia and understand its negative effects on Muslims in today’s society.

By the end of this lesson, pupils should be able to:
Gain a greater understanding of examples of Islamophobia in British society today.
Appreciate why tolerance and respect are so important in our society.
